"I must say that I'm quite surprised that my supervisors agreed to this." The stuffy businessman sighs, placing the briefcase on a small table in front of you. "It was my recommendation that we give this grant to more...creative ideas, but luckily for you the decision wasn't up to me." He opens the briefcase and fans the documents out on the table in front of you, pointing to each as he goes. "A deed to a small plot of land off the coast of Ireland, There's a single room there already, a basic cornerstone charm on it, you'll have to build anything else you need." "This is a permit to magically extend the land if needbe." "An official permission to apply any Mystifications you feel necessary." "Finally, a credit scroll for a hundred thousand gold at the Council Bank. The gold is the extent of your grant, the council will not offer any further help." The man gives you a raised eyebrow, clearly skeptical. "Though I have my doubts, ladies and gentlemen, you're the best sorcerers in the world; if anyone can pull this off you all can. As of this moment, you are the proud administrators of the very first first School of Magic."
It has been three months since you have received your grant money, and you have all gathered in the single stone room of the magic school. There is so much to do before the students start arriving! Some actions can be taken independently by individuals using their own personal judgement or stores of magic, but actions affecting the whole school should be decided on by the group. The items below are guidelines, but you don't have to solely stick to them, you can also write in your own actions you wish to take. Write-in actions will happen automatically if they can be done by an individual, and will be included as an option to vote in if they involve the group. - At the head of the path leading to a school is a place for an ornate sign, but before a sign is made the school must first have a name.
- A scrawny foremaster is offering her Golem workers for building. She's sent you her pricelist to look over (below).
- Coincidentally, a man with indistinct features and a buzzing voice happens to wander by. He listens to your plans for the school with great interest, and offers to sell you a map of the school for 1,000 gold. It's a little steep, but he says it will always display the school as it really is.
- Each of you has a few intern sorcerers handling administration, and they've all been inundated with applications from hopeful students. Your interns aren't quite sure what makes a 'good applicant' for the school or not, and would like some guidelines on who to accept.
- A few enterprising interns are putting together a leaflet to show potential students, but they don't know what spheres of magic the school will offer.
The School has 100,000 GoldGolem Builders' Notes:"Pleasure working with you all! A few things to let you know; if the location of the room isn't specified, we'll use our best judgement on where to put it. Small rooms will always come in sets of four. All rooms come with furnishings and the like rolled into the cost, but we don't offer nothing special; Tomes of Great Learning aren't included in your standard library, you know? Finally, my Golems can't do any magic work, strictly physical only." Golem Builders' PricelistItem | Estimated Cost | Small rooms (dorms[house 2 students each]), admin offices) | 250 gold | Medium rooms (lecture halls, sorcerer offices) | 1,000 gold | Large rooms (dining halls, greenhouses, libraries) | 4,000 gold | Earthwork (Hills, valleys, lakes) | 2,000-5,000 gold |

Hire staff: Book and artifact acquisition staff. Librarian. Teachers. Cooking and cleaning. Resident advisors. Careers advisor
Personal action: Gabriel Tempest. Build a mana well: To improve the levels of ambient mana within the school boundaries. This will increase the amount of training a student can do. Like training wheels. as well as provide excess for staff and the maintenance of magical creatures/plants.
Taught magic by your family, the stigma has faded since your great grandfathers day. being a sorcerer is now a highly aspired position but so many fail. its why you felt driven with a few fellow magic users, to create a school for magic. the rise of magic in man has brought many wonders and dangers, back when the abilities were first discovered magic was thought of very differently. it was blamed for the awakening of many creatures and events. but this is no longer the case. the monsters still exist but magic users have risen to face them. the need for a school has never been greater.

Seduced by the promise of great power you took to studying the way of those who come from Outside. Their methods, their magic and their plane of non-existence. Through your studies you learned how to harness their power and how to protect yourself and others from their influence, even gaining easy access through The Outside to travel to any place in the world. With the awakening of magic across the world you feel its your duty to teach others to not fear what may come from Outside and how to drive them back.

Moreover, a magical potential is required, be it a natural aptitude, self-earned ability, or an enabling boon of a fitting entity.
Furthermore the applicant must have lived at least eighteen (18) summers, and eighteen (18) winters. And be considered at the very least a adolescent mature being for its racial blood and ancestry.
The Course Curriculum observes the three seasons of every year, Autumn, Winter, & Spring. Students will be required to leave campus in the summer months unless they have acquired classes in such. Students who have left for the Summer will be expected back once the first Autumn leaf touch the ground. The Course Curriculum will start upon the first Autumn of the student's arrival and end upon the fourth Springs closing. A Contractual Geas is expected of the student upon enrollment. It ensures repayment falls upon the student. In the event of death, or other potential issues, the fee jumbs onto the nearest living blood relative. Spheres of Knowledge, also known as the Paths of Fascination.
Follows many varied, unknown, silly, and scrupulous ways. Those the University will concern themselves with for this time will be: The Collection and Storage of mana, quintessence, and the numerous other names mortals have for the Fuels of Magic. I.e. Mana collection and storage. The Shaping and Practical use of Pure Power. Among the many ways to direct ones Will is the direct molding and forging of unrefined essence. I.e. Mana shaping. The Ancient Art of Cunning Calligraphy and the Utterance of Formed and Fashioned Power. An early and old way of doing the Art, the utterance and creation of formula which assures a constant and consistent effect. And the use of such. I.e Spell formula and Practical casting. The Creation of Charms and Imbued Artifacts. Long have tales of the procurement of Ancient Artifacts been the stay of Childhood Stories and Fabled Legends, yet few knew the fact that such Achievements include not just your average trinket, but also Rooms, Buildings, and Architecture. I.e Enchantment and warding. Modern Times, Modern Ways, and Modern Elements in Spellcraft. Where the Ancients would slave over parchments of paper, The New Age have brought forth modern ways of doing things. This class will aspire to teach you exactly how much we have improved since the old oafs started scribbling on papyrus. I.e. The elements in modern spellcraft. The Acquisition and Procurement of Rare and Useful ingredients and remedies. Many will call the Hunters for barbarians and beast worse than the creatures that we hunt, but they forget that the 'creatures' are not called Monsters without reason. This class shall teach you survival and to recognise the difference between natural Wild- and Plantlife, and the undeviating blood lust of the rampaging Beasts. I.e Monster hunting. Amazing Alchemy, the ability to garb the magical properties of Rare and Common day items and objects into incredible displays of wondrous Wonder! We will cover the magical properties of a wild range of subjects, while using many of the other Spheres to affect the outcome of our results. We will cover among other things Runes, Augury, and the traditional way of clinking beakers, and burners. I.e. Alchemy. The Native and Natural Path which occurs most often on its own is the most prevalent and oft seen, yet it is also the least known. We shall together study the phenomena in an attempt to determine the ins and outs of this wondrous world. I.e. Natural magics. The Manifestation of Magic in Natural and Fascinating Energies. This Class will teach the student how to anchor the ancestral energies in Familiars as well as Contructs, we will cover Elementals and various other Magically Occurring Creatures in attempt to better our understanding of our bound servants. I.e Golem creation and care.
Individual Action: Mica Eyetooth *Seek out the Wandering Man with Indistinct Features and ask for a demonstration before showing any sort of willingness to procure the Map, if the Artifacts Ability checks out, procure it for the Establishment. Otherwise send the dirty fraud out on his arse.
Mica used to travel a lot. You can see it on him, the way walking is an economic way of preserving motion, the way his hair have been bleached near white from constant exposure to the sun, and his skin a reddish brown shade still. It was while wandering he learned magic, by studying the creatures, the anomalies, and the people he met. A self taught mage, a world wise wizard, a person that kept going. To Eyetooth's sight, you keep up or you fall behind. He considered himself a harsh man, until he met his fellows, now he has his doubts.

Map: Yes. 1,000gp
Name: Avalon.
Rooms:
50 dorms (100 Students) + admin offices + small defensible single-room shack(to be placed on top of the hill) 13,000gp
2 lecture halls and a sorcerers office 3,000gp
dining hall + Library no.1 8,000gp
Forest (to fill with beasties later), Lake (ditto), Large Shallow hill (so that our students have somewhere to actually practice) 11,000gp total 35,000gp
Guidelines:
Despite distaste from the other staff, Lady Amaya would welcome all newcomers to the school, regardless of preexisting magical talent or species. Some might see this and call her kind hearted, and woe be upon them. The only requirement to join is to take a standard (non-unique) geas, pledging not to take any action that would harm the school (inaction is specifically left out), to obey superiors while within the halls (and only while within the halls), and if a failure, to contribute some magical reagent to Amaya's collection (be it the hair of a unicorn, or the bottled sense of sight of the student, blinding them for their failure.)
Lady Amaya only has time for the best, and the weaklings shall be shaved out of her students by their own lack of skill. Upon entry to her classes, victims students are relieved of every non-essential possession they brought with them, to be returned as students prove themselves worthy to stay in her course. She will strive to create a pecking order amongst her students, with better students getting better lodgings and amenities, and if this means that the 'better students' become the target of all those who wish to improve their own lot in life, Lady Amaya will smile and nod.
Lady Amaya welcomes all new faces, but has no time for failures. Once a victim student has proven themselves too weak for her course, she is not wont to give second chances.
Course length: Every Six months the top students are evaluated for graduation or demotion, beyond that leaving the school and returning is entirely permitted, although your position in the pecking order will likely plummet in your absence.
Fees: A contract geas. Repayment falls on the student to be taken immediately upon failure if possible.
Spheres: in order from most important to less important Mind Magic, Correspondence Magic, Personal defence, Information gathering via magic(be it by servants, divination, or necromancy), long-term Curses (and geases), Alchemy, Battle Magic, any other sphere that Lady Amaya sees a student use that catches her eye.
Hire staff: Book and artifact acquisition staff. Librarian. Teachers. Cooking and cleaning.
Lady Amaya would like it to be known that she will often trade back her purloined reagents, in return for a period of indentured servitude.
Personal action: Lady Amaya Rath Lay the groundwork for a correspondance-based Divination system, placing runes throughout the growing building to allow her to see as if she stood where the rune sits. So that the Lady may later view the entire campus from the comfort of her Alchemy Lab.

The founders decide to name their school “Avalon”, and immediately begin to work on construction both magical, mundane, and bureaucratic. The Physical AvalonThe Golems finish up work within a month, and this bill is passed on to the Founders the day of completion:
An inspection of the rooms both physical and magical indicates that they are all in good order. The dorms all include beds and desks, the offices contain ledgers and pens, the dining hall has chairs and tables, the library contains a meager if acceptable collection of basic magical instruction texts. Founder ActionsMica Eyetooth and Atticus Pelt catch the man with indistinct features just as he is leaving. Though the founders are all interested in purchasing his map, they both wish to examine the map for themselves before buying. The map is definitely magical, and the magic doesn’t seem to contain traps. There is a single room already displayed on the map, and on the top is already prominently displayed the words “Magical Map of Avalon”. It seems legit, so the founders purchase it. The man with indistinct features leaves shortly after. (Purchased map for 1,000gp) On the day of work completion the founders note with disappointment that the so called “Magical Map of Avalon” remains the same. It isn’t until the next morning that thick inked lines begin to bleed through, in perfect scale, showing the new rooms and halls. Gabriel Tempest has expended large amounts of magical energy to create a mana well next to the School’s room. From the well springs forth a tiny trickle of additional mana that enriches the area around the school. Although it has drained him greatly, a skilled sorcerer can already feel the bubbling flow of mana. It is weak now, but with time its effects will grow stronger... Lady Amaya makes her way from room to room, placing small unobtrusive runes in each. Given a proper anchor and the right equipment, those runes might allow for perfect transmission of images and sounds... Student ApplicationsThere are two possible admission standards set by the Founders. The Admission Acceptance Guidelines An admission test. Applicants must pass the basics of magic. They must have decent communication skills. 18-19 years of age or equivalent in non-humans. Most magical beings are acceptable as long as they are not actively malicious and/or dangerous. If they require special environmental factors they must provide details, possibly even build their own lodgings. A Contractual Geas is expected of the student upon enrollment. It ensures repayment falls upon the student. In the event of death, or other potential issues, the fee jumbs onto the nearest living blood relative. A ceremonial token of repayment for services rendered is expected upon the student's arrival on Grounds. The remainder to be paid, depending on capability, a year after graduation. OR Lady Amaya’s Guidelines Lady Amaya would welcome all newcomers to the school, regardless of preexisting magical talent or species. Applicants must take a standard geas, pledging not to take any action that would harm the school, to obey superiors while within the halls, and upon failure, to contribute some magical reagent to Amaya's collection (of Lady Amaya’s choice). Applicants will be relieved of every non-essential possession brought with them, to be returned as students prove themselves worthy to stay in the courses. Better lodgings and amenities will be provided to those students who show promise, but those who do not will be expelled with extreme prejudice. Every Six months the top students will be evaluated for graduation or demotion, although leaving the school and returning is entirely permitted, though not encouraged. A contract geas will be required: repayment falls on the student to be taken immediately upon failure if possible. Given the standards of admission, the interns (of which there are two per Founder) begin bringing in students for testing. The test is given only to potential students 18-19 (or their race’s equivalent), and is comprised of a basic magical ability exam with three parts; a written exam, a practical exam, and a communication ability test. When the test scores return, a list of the top 100 scorers are given to the Founders (Although obviously the test scores do not fall so cleanly across species lines). The list contains: - 50 Human applicants, aged 18-19
- 26 Elemental applicants, aged 5-10
- 15 Golem applicants (there was some confusion as to what constitutes ‘age’ in these applicants. In the end they accepted all applicants with ‘young adult’ enchantment profiles applied to them)
- 5 Fae applicants, aged 200-210
- 4 Outsider applicants (neither these applicants nor the interns can make heads or tails of a system for translating Outsider ages to human ages, but these applicants are older than “beginning of existence” and younger than “fully mature”)
Your interns unanimously STRONGLY SUGGEST that the Fae applicants not be allowed to attend, even though they technically meet both sets of guidelines (and in one case score the highest of all applicants). One of the interns attempts to explain their suggestion by repeating the phrase “You’re signing a contract with a Fae! You’re trying to out-legalese a Fae!” over and over in higher and higher pitched tones until he has to be removed from the room. Since they are classified as “dangerous creatures”, the Outsider applicants are ineligible for the Admission Acceptance Guidelines, and can only attend the school under Lady Amaya’s application guidelines. The rest of the applicants are given a choice which guidelines they want to apply under, and choose thus: | Admission Acceptance | Amaya's Guidelines | Human applicants | 29 | 21 | Elemental applicants | 19 | 7 | Golem applicants | 15 | 0 | Fae applicants | 4 | 1 | Outsider applicants | 0 | 4 |
The appropriate geas for the sets of guidelines have been applied to all potential students, conditional on their attendance. StaffLuckily the varied lives and adventures of the Founders make it easy to contact reputable sorcerers in need of employment. Every member of the staff can either be vouched for by one of you, or by someone whose opinion you trust. Their yearly salaries are placed on a bill as follows:
The magical ink finally bleeds through enough to read. Beneath the map in a spidery hand, a legend reads: (2,2-5) | West Wing Student Dorms | (9,2-5) | East Wing Student Dorms | (3-4,2) & (7-8,2) | North End Student Dorms | (2,7) & (9,7) | Student "Quad" Dorms | (5-6,1-2) | Dining Hall | (4,4) | Mana Well | (5,4) | Cornerstone Office | (6,4) | Administrative Offices | (5,5) | Sorcerer's Tower | (1,6) & (10,6) | Lecture Halls | (7-9,8-9) | Library |
Avalon currently has 56,437 gold left. Mica Eyetooth is magically energized. Atticus Pelt is magically energized. Gabriel Tempest is magically exhausted. He might not want to undertake large magical projects right now. Lady Amaya is magically drained. She can still take on projects, but doing so might over-tax her. Now that the staff has found lodging nearby and things are beginning to get underway, the Founders are faced with a few final decisions before officially opening the school: Should certain students be turned away?Should staff be added/removed?What fees do Amaya’s Guidelines stipulate? What fees do the Admission Acceptance stipulate? Is there anything further that must be done before Avalon brings in its first students and the first semester begins?

Fae: Shall be accepted as long as they sign the additional clause. "They agree to abide by the spirit of the whole agreement not the just exact wording." Breaking this is immediate expulsion and payment of fees all that are due.
No Outsiders: Overrule The lady.
Other races/species may apply. All applications are considered. Even the so called lesser races, goblins, trolls etc.
My fees: 10% of 7 years earnings, paid monthly back to us once they are graduated. For degree level. 10 years for masters level. 15 years for phd level. those unable to find work and pay, will have a flat fee of ten percent of their studies cost charged yearly. For those still unable to pay, they have a choice: Servitude to the school or a curse. The cursed ones' fees are passed on to their families.
Staff: Currently happy with the staff we have, although all will be assessed once school has started. Ensure the monster hunting teacher is using appropriate grade monsters for the practical exercises.
Send out the acquisitions teams. Books:higher study books. grimoires, enchantment schematics. Artifacts:common items, for study.
Advanced degrees should be offered. Longer studies, higher level degrees. 4 years standard, then 6 years, then 10 years.
To receive their degree students must prove their understanding of the subject matter in a unique project. It will be assessed by the faculty. The project will be decided on by the student with advice and guidance from the appropriate member of the faculty. Improvements to the school are typically suggested, a way to give back to the place that nurtured them. To continue on with further study, they must be sponsored, not financially, by a faculty member.
Course transfers: Any student unhappy with their course may apply to shift courses. The application will be heard and judged on the merits of the student. If a student transfers from The Lady's course they will have to bind themselves with the Admission Acceptance.
Build the forest:The soon to be magical forest. Build a small valley: as a training area for practical lessons
Those that require non-standard lodging are to build or state their requirements. the cost of building will be either covered by them or by arrangement with the school.
Order uniforms: Semi formal. Nothing overly colourful. Black and white.
Reach out to local business to see what they are looking for in terms of graduate positions, possible partnerships with town councils. Discuss what services are required.
Personal action:Gabriel Tempest Speak to some old contacts. After considering options from his contacts, gabriel decided on one. An earth mage by the name of Odus Trephior. Gabriel and Odus met during their childhoods. they were part of a collection of families that shared knowledge in the hopes of building a better life for their children. 7 families in total. as two boys from magical bloodlines, they had a lot in common at first, they learnt the ways of earth magics together, but Gabriel wanted more from his life while Odus wanted to study the earth and all its inhabitants, plant and animal. Inform him of the forest and its potential. He is interested and will be coming by to check it out. The mage is a good supplier of magical creature, trees and plants. He will know exactly what is best to live there. Maybe he will even have a few to start us off.
"Weirwood trees would be perfect here, they love places with lots of mana. Hmm. You are going to be getting lots of creatures, nothing big for a while though. It takes time for a forest to develop the right..feel to it. There is a word for it but you never did study green magic that hard." "Thank you for pointing that out, but if I had you wouldn't be here, now would you? Any further recommendations?" "Get some silverleaf bushes, they are great for starting off. They convert moonlight into, well, not quite mana, but close enough. A few of the dryads would really help, they are brilliant at this sort of thing. Their acorns are hard to get hold of though. You sure you want an enchanted forest?" "I don't recall saying enchanted, but magical. Filled with useful resources, alchemy supplies. Creatures. Useful woods. Herbs. You know, not everything takes enchantment well." "If that's what you are after then I might have to come back in a year or two. Its too early for most of the stuff you want but we have made a start." Planted Weirwood saplings and Silverleaf bushes in the forest.
No further objection to opening and starting the semester.

Fae shall be accepted as long as they sign the additional clause. "They agree to abide by the spirit of the agreement not the exact wording." No Outsiders, except those affiliated with the lady and with conditions based on the knowledge of Atticus. Fees: 10% of 7 years earnings, paid monthly back to us once they are graduated. for degree level. 10 years for masters level. 15 years for phd level. Those unable to find work and pay, will have a flat fee of ten percent of their studies cost charged yearly. for those still unable to pay, they have a choice: servitude to the school or a curse. the cursed ones fees are passed on to their families. Cursed families may pay off all or part of the curse in a term of service to the school. Advanced degrees should be offered. longer studies, higher level degrees. 4 years standard. then 6 years. then 10 years. Once the school is up and running we may offer scholarships to particularly promising students/applicants. Money for which will come from either the school or outside sponsers.
Build the forest.
Personal Action: Sir Alter Tievel
With the applications process underway, Alter decides to set up some magical security. Wards, localised clairvoyance spells in public areas to monitor student activity, magical alarms and counterspells to prevent magical conflict in public areas. He makes the whole setup modular so he can fiddle with it later and expand it as the school grows.
Make a deal with the Lady to include her divination sigils as part of the system, under the condition that they are usable by others as well as herself.
Happily accept Atticus' expertise on outsiders when designing preventative defenses.
Set a few traps for particularly persistent undesireables. Mostly involving fire but also some more subtle measures (e.g. looping/changing corridors, hallucinogenic gas etc.)
Train Staff to police the school for unauthorised visitors or magic misuse. Equip them with counter-charms and protective gear etc.
A very short (3' 1"), flame haired - literally, magical experiment gone... RIGHT! - mage with glowing eyes, you are always underestimated due to your size. Your particular magical specialty is counterspells and defensive enchantment, though you dabble in pyrotechnics as a hobby. Combining the two has proven... fun.
It didn't take much to convince you to join the school founders, particularly when you were given free reign as to your personal experiments (as long as you don't intentionally harm the students anyway).
LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Fae shall be accepted as long as they sign the additional clause. "They agree to abide by the spirit of the agreement not the exact wording." No Outsiders that have not been on this planet for more than a billion year and don't pay taxes(suggestion to Ms. Rath.) They are allowed in any part of school except for other student dorm buildings and rooms. My fees are 13% of 7 years earnings, paid monthly back to us once they are graduated. Degree level: 10 years for masters level. 15 years for PHD level. Those unable to find work and pay, will have a flat fee of ten percent of their studies cost charged yearly. Advanced degrees should be offered. Longer studies, higher level degrees. 4 years standard, then 6 years. then 10 years.
Build the training area.
Personal Action:
Assist with upgrading the security system to keep Outsiders in line. You don't want them running amok n your school, you know their relatives and as such can have them punished.
An average height figure dressed in a full body dark brown robe. His face is always hidden in darkness and his arms and legs are clad in forearm length gloves and knee high boots respectively. Never ask why he always wears the robe, he won't be afraid of showing you but what you see you may not like.

10% of 7 years earnings paid monthly back to the establishment once they are graduated. Those unable, or unwilling, to find work and pay will have a flat fee of ten percent of their studies cost charged yearly. For those still unable to pay, they have a choice. Servitude to the school for twice the duration of their stay, or a curse.
Build the forest.
Personal Action: Mica Eyetooth Make a point to check out the staff, either by conversation or observation, in order to get at good feel for them. No homicidal crazies, governmental spies, or people who seek gain over school property and student health. - If that is done in a reasonable time, create a Perimeter Ward with the purpose of alerting the establishment of anything that crosses it which does not make their life of Avalon.
If the Staff checks out, Mica would not have any reservations to starting the semester.

Lady Amaya grits her teeth as she stares down at the page of applicants for her class. She should have foreseen this, magic was not limited to humans, she knew first-hand. She had intended to treat everyone equally, to be a fair and impartial judge, neither picking favourites nor encouraging failure, no matter how tempting the rewards. Looking down at the four species that applied she had to wonder, despite how well their nature meshed with her curriculum, could she really bring herself to impartially teach a Faery.
Fairy Trauma Bar: [||--------]
Fae will take no extra geas in Lady Amaya's course, as 'rules lawyering' and 'politicking' are not only allowed, but an integral part of the exercise.
Outsiders are strange and dangerous to the world around them, but after her discussions with Atticus they are also paradoxically simple in their complexity. Lady Amaya holds that, while not everyone can be a mage, a good mage could come from anyone. She will happily allow Outsiders into her course.
She will also make it clear to her students that she will not protect them if they harm the wrong person and earn the ire of the other faculty, nearly all of whom count as superiors under her geas.
There is no Fee for taking Lady Amaya's Course. There is a Fee for failing, including failing via death.
In the case of failure, Lady Amaya will distill a part of the student to use as a reagent later. Depending on the qualities of the student she may bottle their sense of touch (leaving a patch of numbness that will take magic to cure), their hair color (leaving their formerly vibrant hair a stark white), a part of their sex drive (Now maybe Irbran won't be so busy looking at his girlfriends, and can find time to look at his books), or even stranger things.
The potions that can be made with these ingredients should fetch a fair price.
Every two months (to be changed as student numbers change) the lowest student in the course's pecking order will be Failed, their belongings (if not already earned back) will be returned and they will be taken off the island by the Lady Amaya via correspondance or void walk. Unlike The Admission Acceptance Guidelines, Lady Amaya takes applicants all year round, without care for age.
Lady Amaya Will Contribute her knowledge of curses, correspondence, and clairvoyance, and help improve the magical security of the school. She will take a relaxed approach, allowing others to do the heaviest metaphorical magical lifting as she contributes knowledge and minor help.

The final weeks leading up to Opening Day of Avalon go by in a flurry of activity. The Golem company is hired again:
The forest has been planted to the North of the campus, a little larger than the existing campus. To the West of the campus, a little smaller, the earth dips down into a valley covered in lush green grass. The valley will be quite useful for practical training, as the lowered level will dampen some magic and protect the campus from stray spells. Founder ActionsGabriel Tempest enlists the help of an old friend to consult on the complexity of bringing in flora and fauna necessary to make it a magical forest. The two can be seen entering and leaving the forest for their long walks over the next two days. In the end, Weirwood saplings are planted throughout the forest, and in the night one can see the eerie glow of Silverleaf bushes. Tempest’s friend leaves with the promise that he will keep an eye out for useful creatures, plants, and herbs. Gabriel also sends letters out to the local businesses, attempting to gauge what they need as far as magical services, positions to be filled, etc. He expects replies to start trickling in in a month or so. In addition he orders uniforms for the students, 700 in total, which arrive shortly before Opening Day. Black pants and white shirts for the boys, black skirts and white blouses for the girls, all with Avalon’s crest tastefully woven in. The cost comes to 5 gold per uniform: 3,500gp total. Sir Alter Tieval prepares for the new students by beginning construction on magical Wards, Monitors, Alarms, Traps, and Counterspells. Atticus Pelt assists Alter in all areas of this security involving Outsiders. Mica Eyetooth assists Alter by extending the Wards and Alarms to create a perimeter around Avalon Lady Amaya assists Alter in a consultant capacity, not expending any magical energy, but dedicating her expertise and with the runes she has already worked into the school. When the security is finished, a gifted sorcerer could read the security in the invisible runes surrounding the school in a sphere. They would read thus: - The Wards will turn away those without purpose, changing their path with a gentle hand. One cannot reach the school without intending to go to the school.
- The Monitors will allow the Founders to view any area covered by Amaya’s runes (currently the insides of all non-administrative buildings) through their prefered viewing method: crystal ball, scrying pool, magic mirror etc.
- The Alarms will sound if any intelligent creature that does not live or work in Avalon crosses the perimeter. Only the Founders will hear the alarms.
- Counterspells will mute the effects of any magic intended to harm an Avalon building or an Avalon student (or staff). They won’t stop the harmful magic outright, but they will decrease their effect.
- Traps lay set in every Avalon building except the Sorcerer’s Tower, able to be engaged only by the Founders
Every aspect of the security has been tuned to a hair-trigger with respect to Outsiders. The Founders can expect far more false-positives with Outsiders than with other races. The magical energy expended by the Founders seeps into the cracks of their wards, providing protection from things even they hadn’t thought of. In theory, “the perimeter” will also cover invisible and concealed people, as well as people on the other side of a portal or transport who are still within effective range of the perimeter. This is only in theory, however, and has not been tested. Ever the paranoid, Mica Eyetooth also subtly vets the staff on his own terms. Not surprisingly, given that each has been vetted before, they all pass muster (although he is fairly sure that one of the Golem cleaning crew is addicted to shkamoo) Changes to Incoming Student RosterWhen the new clause is officially added to the Admission Acceptance guidelines, two Fae withdraw their applications immediately, choosing instead to apply under Amaya’s guidelines. One additional Fae wishes to stay in the Admission Acceptance guidelines, but demands that you specifically clarify what “the spirit of the rules” means exactly, which most of the Founders feel is grounds to reject his application. The result is that three Fae now attend under Amaya’s Guidelines, and one is bound by the Admission Acceptance guideline. Upon learning that there will be Elemental, Golem, Fae and Outsider students, 9 sets of human parents withdraw their children’s applications from the school. With much trepidation and excitement, the Founders wait for their 90 new students to arrive.
The Founders choose to observe the students opening day arrival from the Sorcerer’s Tower, maintaining some level of aloofness, at least at first. Magic users are nothing if not punctual, and almost all of the students have arrived before the set time of 8 o’clock. The path to Avalon leads directly into the clearing in the Southwest of campus, and it is there they all mingle as they wait. A large variety of Humans make up the bulk of the group, of course. Different skin tones from deep brown to pale white, different attitudes from cocky to timid, a veritable rainbow of the variability that make up the species. Even though they’re mingling among the humans, and most of them could pass as Human, it’s quite easy to identify the Golems. Exceedingly social, cheerful, laughing at little jokes and cracking their own, generally being the life of whatever little group they stand in. There is a surprising variety of types as well; closer inspection reveals that your new Golem students span the range of porcelain, ceramic, sandstone and even a few granite. Already there are small groups forming around them, and it doesn’t hurt that each and every one of them are flirting shamelessly with anyone who talks to them. Certainly less social than the Golems, though not unfriendly for the most part, the Elementals are the easiest to pick out from the mass of students. They’re already starting to form up into their little cliques, the Stones gravitating towards the Flames, who are burning just hot enough that Human students won’t approach, and the Waters and Airs seeming to "accidentally" find each other in the crowd. You’re not sure from up in your tower, but it sounds like none of them are speaking in common, perhaps to further keep themselves separate from the Humans. It takes some hard looking to seek out the Fae, but once the Founders see them it’s hard not to see the difference. Any one of their features wouldn't be strange on their own, but all together they produce an unsettling effect. Their hair is just a little too bright, their teeth a tiny bit too sharp, the eyes a touch too big, their smiles a little too wide. Human students keep approaching them, drawn in by their beauty, and then casually sidling away, put off by their creepiness. Watching from above is amusing, as the crowd around them moves in a tiny wave-like pattern, approaching and moving away. At exactly 8:00am and 1 second, the Avalon alarms go crazy, their pitch and tone indicating Outsider intrusion on a gigantic scale. An explanation isn’t needed: a portal has opened a few meters away from the Southwest field, and four students step through. The portal closes with a sound like the reverse of a thunderclap, and the alarms cease: clearly the Outsider students’ families were on the other side of the portal wishing them goodbye. The Outsider students are all quite human in shape, but difficult to look at. Not because they’re ugly or anything, they’re literally difficult to look at: as if vision tries to slide off of their skin, as if one’s brain just skips the void and disregards it as a glitch. The Founders are able to overcome such difficulties of course (especially Atticus) and observe them for what they are. From head to toe, the Outsider students’ skin, hair and features are black. Not the color "black", but the black of a starless night, as if they are an absence of reality. Despite this, it's oddly easy to distinguish their features. Humanlike, on the attractive side, two boys and two girls. They wait politely and patiently, standing in a row, making no move towards any of the buildings and clearly waiting for instructions. It's obvious that they are aware of exactly how welcome they are at Avalon. Though they don’t join the group of milling students, if a student nods or waves in their direction they smile back in a reserved manner. Although the Founders watch from behind a dark window, and are thus invisible to the students below, one of the Outsider girls looks toward the window of the Sorcerer’s Tower and gives a polite smile and a tiny wave of greeting.
Avalon currently has 45,437 gold left. The Forest’s Wierwood and Silverleaf are saplings. The Mana Well is still only providing a trickling effect Mica Eyetooth is magically worn. He’s a little frazzled, but still has plenty of energy left in him. Atticus Pelt is magically worn. He’s a little frazzled, but still has plenty of energy left in him. Gabriel Tempest is magically drained. He can still take on projects, but doing so might over-tax him. Lady Amaya is magically worn. She’s a little frazzled, but still has plenty of energy left in her. Sir Alter Tieval is magically drained. He can still take on projects, but doing so might over-tax him. The staff stands at the ready, clearly bursting with questions of how to handle the difficult day ahead of them. - There are enough uniforms for every student to be given seven. Is the dress code limited to Tempest’s uniforms only? When is more casual wear allowed?
- Depending on the personal effects brought with them, the items that the Outsiders must hand over to Lady Amaya might need to be stored quite carefully. Are there any instructions for the storage of items taken from....er...”held for” Amaya’s students?
- There is enough room in the dorms for all the students, but no housing rules have yet been decided:
[ ] Segregate students by program: Admission Acceptance/Amaya’s Guidelines [ ] Segregate students by race: Human/Elemental/Fae/Outsider [ ] Allow the students to choose their own rooms: First come first serve [ ] Write-in
- Mr Templeton, your teacher of mana collection, mana storage, and mana shaping curriculum, has stormed in and informed you all that he completely refuses to have Golems or Fae in his classes. He issues an ultimatum that if any of them attend his classes he will not teach that class.
- Count Possemple, your teacher of golem creation, golem care, and magical information gathering curriculum, sends a quick message by dove to tell the Founders that every single Golem student has signed up for Golem creation and care classes. While he doesn’t have a problem with that, as such, he thought the founders ought to know.
- Is there anything that should be done during the first semester?

[X] Allow the students to choose their own rooms:
First come first serve. Watch the situation closely. We are new at this and it could be a mistake but they are all going to have to work together in the real world. they are also all new at this, maybe we can work through potential issues.
[X] Uniforms:
All students get two sets of uniform, any replacements are paid for by the student. More casual wear is allowed out side of academic hours,as long as it is not dangerous. More appropriate wear is advised for lessons that require protective wear.
Templeton:Inform him that you don't handle ultimatums well. Let him go, Gabriel will take the class while a replacement is being found. Possemple: That is very interesting and potentially concerning. "Please monitor the situation"
There is something that should be done during the first semester:
Keep detailed records of any issues, be they lack of materials. a gap in the curriculum, interpersonal issues. These records will be needed for future reference.
Personal action:Gabriel Tempest
The wardings are enough to keep things out, but something is needed to keep things in. For this place to really flourish it must be steeped in magic This thought goes round and round Gabriel's mind as he wanders the halls. The forest was starting to take, the saplings growing well but its just not enough. The knowledge that he was expecting too much too soon did nothing to relieve the expectation and frustration. The mana from the well helped but it drifted, being dispersed over such a wide area. A boundary was needed to keep it in and help this place become the best it could be.
Checking his reserves, they were low but should be sufficient for this. Gabriel shaped his mana in such a way to create a very light boundaryline. it followed the perimeter warding which reduced the strain. In time, with care, it would grow, but the seeds have been planted. Gabriel stares out to sea watching the waves crash on the rocky shore. The weather in this place is so changeable, he muses before turning back and reentering his school. More work to be done, always more work. But its for a better future for this world. That is worthwhile.
