Thirteenth day of the Month of Descending Fire, in the Years of the New Gods, 312
I've been tasked with investigating mass deaths in the forests near Widow's Peak. In all likelihood it is merely a lesser curse on a city that has been less than properly devout, but it bears investigation and recording none-the-less.
Having acquired a ship and provisions under the grace of the Green Lord, I cast off tomorrow. Hopefully this matter will be quickly resolved, and I can return to the temples with haste.
Twentieth day of the Month of Ascending Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
It’s curious, the town has been driven into a nigh-fanatical frenzy, rivaling the holiest of days within the temple, but the Mantra harvested from their worship is inconsistent with their actions. What heresies must be going on behind closed doors to drain that much power from the act?
Twenty-second day of the Month of Ascending Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
When questioned, the townspeople could not identify anything wrong with their own practices, neither promised reward nor threat of inquisition was enough to make anybody step forward with information. There is a growing discontent around my presence in town.
Tomorrow I will head into the forests to investigate the curse at its point of origin, perhaps the specifics will give me some clue as to the situation. Requesting divine intervention may become necessary, I fear the heresy may already be too rooted to be solved by mere men.
Third day of the Month of Crowned Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
I do not bear the sin of being too prideful to know when I am out of my depth. This curse, it is something I have never seen before. Certainly the outer radius of the effect is familiar, animals and plants bearing the signs of those truly forsaken by the Gods, their spirits lifted from their bodies, leaving only limp bestial movements, devoid of any Mantra or purpose. Piercing further into the affected area, I began to see strange things, golden vines fresh and brimming with their own energy, I can only call it an alien Mantra, sickly sweet as opposed to the cleansing feeling of pure Mantra.
As the sun is setting, I am hesitant to go any further, I will encamp in the dead zone, with the protection of the Ladies and Lord, to guard my spirit from this curse.
Fourth day of the Month of Crowned Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
When I awoke I found the vines had crawled towards my tent in the night, a golden arm reaching out of the circle of growth. I give praise that I am not given to slothfulness, as I do not know what might have happened if the vines had actually reached my campsite.
After packing I began my hike towards the center of the affected area. The vines gave way to flowering fields of blue and gold, saplings growing and animals rustling in the undergrowth, each and every living thing here shines with the alien Mantra. I spent three hours trying to catch a shimmering bug, to no avail. I think the Mantra clouded my thoughts, and will spend a few days outside the affected area to clear my head and center myself in my devotion to the Ladies and Lord.
I am no longer sure this qualifies as a curse, I will have to confer with the higher priests when I return to the temples.
Fifteenth day of the Month of Crowned Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
I have been stopping myself from returning to the forest until I could gather enough Mantra to properly honor the New Gods, in the expectation that the ritual would help me to clear away the flaws of my mortal perception. It took longer than expected to gather the requisite amount, even after I was allowed to join the ceremonies of the town. Finally, with a clear head, I will begin my trek back into the gold and blue forest.
Seventeenth day of the Month of Crowned Rain, in the Years of the New Gods 312
I saw the most amazing thing today, I finally made it to the center of the gold and blue forest, and there, lounging on a vast tree, unlike any other in the world, was this marvelous blue and gold serpent. It looked at me and I could feel the warm glow of the alien Mantra filling me up.
All potential heresy aside, This must be what the first prophet felt, upon the New Gods entry into this world. I know that where I sit will become history, a place to worship the newest god, and so I’m sending this journal as a message to the other servants of the temple, come, see history! Dracis Lux.
You are a demon, You are a dragon, in the end there is not much difference between the two. When your very existence is a parasite that drinks the very blood of gods, does it matter what lesser beings call you?
You were born, in as much as any dragon is born, alongside thousands of brothers, from a mother that spanned a universe. She cast you across the foam of reality, knowing that at least a few of you would survive and encounter new universes to subsume, to one day find yourself in her place, such is the nature of life as a dragon.
On the chaos between realities you floated, secure in your bubbly shell even as your brothers one by one crashed into the snarls of reality that they might eventually call home. Being one of the last of your clutch to find a universe, you had more than enough time to strengthen your form and prepare for your future challenges.
