I thought it was would be a good idea to start a thread to discuss the game and its setting. This way we can keep the character thread to just discussing the characters.

By the way, it occurred to me that we haven't discussed the what the effects of joining the United Heroes mean. Having gone and looked here, it seems that junior members get $500 a month if they are members. Being a member means they have to be available at designated hours, keep in shape, attend training programs and have good enough grades at school. For that last one, I would assume they would make excepted for some of the more deranged metahumans out there (such as David Brock). They also get bonuses for fighting crime, getting more money depending on how dangerous the threat is.

Gadgeteer and Contrivers also get lab space and materials if I remember correctly

That is true as well. I'm trying to think about what Paladin can offer Einn's Burrow's local manifestations.

Paladin can offer a whole lot to the various metahumans. Joining the UH means a steady paycheck, protection for your family, and the resources and backup that being a member of the largest organization entails. Being a vigilante however is more dangerous on multiple levels. It becomes more difficult to keep your identity and life secret, you have enemies on both sides (although the UH aren't as bad as the villains), you lack resources unless you're independently wealthy or have a high-paying job (which would cut into vigilanteing time), and above all, you're a criminal. Vigilantes might fight crime, but they are still breaking the law and will be treated accordingly.

Hey Guys. Just so you know, in the event of Grendel getting beaten and the characters (Cough Paladin Cough Beowulf Cough) becoming more powerful, I got back-up villain whose development name is basically '£$%@ Einn's Burrow and every metahuman in it'. The character is a black hole and pretty damn powerful with a couple of major and exploitable flaws, but I didn't want it to seem like it has come out of nowhere when it shows up in-game.

Just a teaser for the Black Hole character. Ortho's theme is Hatred of Metahumanity.

It's good to have more villains in reserve, I don't think either of us want this game to finish anytime soon

Hey guys, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on how the game is going so far and any suggestions on how to improve it. Also I'm planning to have a few weak and/or aspiring supervillains come in to try and replace Grendel before Ortho is thrown into the mix.

I have to confess I was a bit surprised about how fast that was, I expected Grendel to last a lot longer. But so far no complaint.

I expected Grendel to last longer as well, but I wasn't sure how to do it without breaking characterisation of Beowulf and the Invisible Slasher. Beowulf wouldn't have let Grendel get away when he was at this weakest while the Invisible Slasher would have killed Grendel at the first opportunity. Oh well, at least now we can have a bunch of low tier villains to fight now. I'll probably just roll them up using the character generator. Plus Sugar Brick and Seducer might show up again.

Yeah, the game has been going pretty well so far. What I want to know is what happened to the 7-8 gangsters who got away? Couple plot ideas: maybe they all manifested and a gang war is breaking out or something. Or maybe one of them manifested and there's a new boss.
Unrelated here; I think Paladin definitely upgraded through the star forge from that last fight, maybe two levels from just taking down a goddam god tier metahuman. Beowulf is a maybe on that, because he really didn't do anything in the end. Since you're GM, I figured I'd check in before rolling anything.

Good idea about the gangsters mandragons. I roll a d100 for one to see if they manifested with 10% chance (I was planning to have most of them killed by Grendel and villainesses with the rest finished off by the Invisible Slasher). ( amMkPScM1-1001-1001-1001-1001-1001-1001-1001-100) As for the going up a level for the Star Forges, I think a good idea would be to have a roll (50/50) to see if they level up after being put in such a situation. In this case, Paladin will go up a level while Paladin and Beowulf both have a chance to go up another level (Paladin: 1-100/Beowulf: 1-100). Grendel's Gangsters will manifest on rolls of 91 or higher while the Star Forges will level up on a roll of 51 or higher. 1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100
