I don't mind swearing, I just don't do it myself and that extends to what I write so don't worry about censoring yourself AceOfSpade. ***David Brock ignores Paladin as be lowers himself to the ground. Beowulf groans, but doesn't wake up yet.
The street is a mess with two dead gangsters, another impaled on Grendel's greatsword, one encased in ice with their throat torn open and the last one on the ground with a stab wound in their eye.

"Really? Because we could have used your help. About two year ago, when the UH bailed."
I thought we had a shoot at denying the vigilantism charges but didn't try it. I was more preoccupied with Beowulf's state. I suddenly realized I knew just about nothing on first aid. That was dumb.
"Beowulf? You okay?"
I didn't dare touch his head or neck in case something was broken and needed to stay in place.

As David stands in the middle of the road, Beowulf's eyes flicker open.
"What happened?" demands Beowulf as sits upright and looks around, "My sword! That imbecile Grendel broke my sword! It took me over a year and a half to invent that!"

"Beowulf, my name is Paladin, of the United Heroes. I'm here to offer you the chance to join the UH, or at least register. Vigilantism is illegal, you know."
I turned to Mask Boy. "And in case you didn't notice, we currently stand on the brink of WW3. The Sovjet Union is mobilizing, more villains are appearing, and the UH has been pretty goddam busy. So I'm sorry that your small Alaskan town didn't receive priority when a villain turned up, I really am. But you should be thankful I'm here now, and I'm here to help. If you guys work with me, we can defeat Grendel and lock him away forever. We have a much better chance of succeeding if we work together. You might hate us, but we're your best chance of freeing this town." As I spoke, I increased the purefire around my shoulders and head, trying to inspire confidence, trust, and bravery in these people.

To convince Beowulf, Paladin got a roll of 12+6+1 against 20 while getting a roll of 3+6+1 against 28 to convince David. *** David ignores Paladin as he walks to back to his house. Beowulf crunches his eyes up as he considers Paladin's offer.

"Yeah right. The name is White Kitsune by the way."
You could have dealt with Grendel years ago more easily instead of letting him get stronger...
I took Beowulf's arm and gently made the shield vambrace slide off his arm.
"Not all is lost Beowulf, I've still got the one you gave me and..."
I turned the shield toward the ground. Nothing happened, I shook it once finally making Grendel's swords drop out of the hammerspace.
"... we got these."
I gave him the vambrace back.
"Don't get back up too fast, you might have a concussion."
I didn't know what to answer the UH guy, as much as I didn't really trusted the UH being hunted as vigilants wouldn't help, and we couldn't flee right now with Beowulf maybe concussed.

"Good point," admits Beowulf as he gets up, "May I have my spare sword back?"
He leans forward, clasping his hand on White Kitsune's shoulder. As Beowulf draws his spare sword, he whispers in White Kitsune's ear.

I looked at the UH guy, Paladin, I was still a little unsure but I sighted and answered.
"Okay, I'll register and join the UH but unless you're a God or Apex tier metahuman we're still going to be short on firepower against Grendel and these supervillainess. I'm only Parangon myself."
I looked around.
God... so much death...
Then I wondered if I could make something out of the contrivances, they were some shields laying around, shields made of wood, and paper is made from wood... could he cannibalize contrivances for parts without his inventions going boom?

"White Kitsune, thank you." I tell him before turning to Beowulf. "Beowulf, where do you stand?"

"I'll join you as well," replies Beowulf as he sheaths his spare sword in the empty scabbard at his waist, "But I'm going to kill that monster."

I smiled broadly, though they couldn't see it under the mask. "Excellent." I said. "Before anything else," I held up my hand and summoned the purefire, "Do either of you require healing? My flames can fix most minor things."

I'll add Beowulf's character sheet to the character thread *** "I might have a concession and few bruises," replies Beowulf, "But I do have my own healing. Admittedly that is of Exemplar like the rest of my powers."

"I didn't get hit"
I drifted a little to the side to start collecting the cast-off contrived equipment. I hadn't gotten hit that was true but only because Paladin had showed up, otherwise I would have been the next target of that speedster. I needed more serious equipment.

I walk forward slowly. "Yeah, my healing is pretty low powered too. But any little bit helps." I directed the flame at Beowulf, avoiding anything that seemed like a contrivance.

"What about your powers?" asks Beowulf, "I got a bunch of Exemplar powers. Strength, durability, better normal healing, reflexes and senses. I'm also a contriver judging by my sword. Now I think about it, I messed around with Grendel's power a bit when I was fighting him. Just a little, not enough to do much."
